Major construction works are well underway at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), a 24million SF mixed-use development by TRX City, encompassing investment grade A office space, world-class residential, hospitality, retail and cultural offerings. TRX will develop the city’s role as a financial capital by creating a seamless business environment for financial services firms, multinational companies and supporting ancillary businesses.
To date, TRX has signed global property and infrastructure group Lendlease to jointly develop the Lifestyle Quarter; HSBC Malaysia, Prudential Malaysia and Affin Bank Berhad for office towers; Indonesia’s leading property developer Mulia International to develop the landmark skyscraper Exchange 106; Lembaga Tabung Haji and WCT Bhd for residential plots, and global leader in water management Veolia Water Technologies as the water treatment and recycling concessionaire.
Machado Silvetti won the master plan through an international competition in 2010. The design implements several planning dualities that support the vision of the TRX as landmark district of global significance. These dualities include the following: high density with inclusive and accessible public space; differentiated real estate offerings with clear urban order; shared utilities/infrastructure with independently developed plots; out-of-site parking with direct access to major highways; local mixed-use programs with an international statement of architectural excellence; and sustainable practices with individual plot objectives and shared results.
In July 2017 Principal Jeffry Burchard has the opportunity to tour the site while in Kuala Lumpur deliver the inaugural TRX talk at TRX Gallery, also designed by Machado Silvetti. The TRX Talk, was attended by industry leaders, developer partners and local university students and covered the conceptual basis for TRX, how the master plan compares to other development in the city, the main aspirations of the master plan and how it evolved through the planning process, as well as how TRX will interact with its neighbors and the city at large.
