On October 20, 2017 the AIA New England presented Machado Silvetti with an Honor Award for the Asian Art Study Center at the Ringling Museum of Art. This project in Sarasota, FL is a 7,500 square-foot addition and 'gut renovation' to the West Wing galleries on the southwest corner of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art complex. Attending the awards ceremonies were Principals Stephanie Randazzo Dwyer and Jeffry Burchard.
AIA New England Jury Comments:
The jury appreciated how this addition was clearly positioned in contrast to the existing building. The deep involvement and care of the team with the craft of making of the façade is the perfect counterpoint to the starkness of the form. The ease with which the project uses bold color, both inside and outside, adds to a masterful but restrained palette of architectural moves. The project touches upon so many issues surrounding contextuality while it chooses to create a very distinct “other”.
