Machado Silvetti has cultivated an understanding of the unique needs, complexities, and opportunities of museums from our nearly four decades of experience working with museums and the arts. The museum’s of the last century offered their visitors an experience of solitary contemplation but today’s museums must continue to broaden their layers of engagement. They offer the public a range of experiences, from interactive exhibits and installations; formal education and informal learning; to public gatherings and events at which individuals can share memories, celebrate important events, and imagine the future. Each museum project is distinct as no two institutions and now two communities are alike and what differentiates museums more than ever is the ways in which their local communities can call the museum their own.

Denver Museum of Art Opening
At Machado Silvetti, we take great pride in our design approach that seamlessly integrates new and existing spaces. This approach was central to our work on the Denver Art Museum's renovation, where we aimed to preserve the iconic Gio Ponti-designed building while addressing the museum's evolving needs. By carefully considering the building's existing materials, textures, and colors, we created a cohesive design that harmoniously blends the new and the old.

Benton Museum of Art
The Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College is sited as a key interface between the campus and the village of Claremont, CA. At this location the building offers spaces for both direct and casual engagement with art for the college and community alike. The building's organization is inspired by the thatch-work plan of the overall campus where long arcades and pedestrian axes string together spaces of varying size, intimacy and interiority. At the Benton a number of cross-axes provide access and views across the site, while holding together a composition of interior and exterior spaces.

10 Years to PAAM
The Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) is an organization dedicated to the exhibition and collection of art, as well as the education of the public in the arts. Since its founding in 1914, the museum has always fostered exhibitions and programs that serve both the artist and lay communities.

Awards
Over the past few months, the Denver Art Museum, Martin Building Expansion and Revitalization project has been widely recognized with a number of awards, from the local, Denver Mayor’s Design Award, to Interior Design Magazine’s 2022 Best of Year Winner for Museums, to the most recently received, Boston Society for Architecture, Honor Award for Design Excellence.
