Edwin Goodell was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Lexington. In 1992, he graduated from Colby College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and fine arts. He graduated with his Master in Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1998. With the firm of Gary Wolf Architects, Mr. Goodell worked on several Boston area projects, including the transformation of the historic Hill Kennard House into the new home of the Brookline Music School. While at the New York office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill, he contributed to the roof design of the JFK International Terminal. After Harvard, Mr. Goodell worked as a lead designer in the office of Murphy Burnham and Buttrick Architects in New York. In addition to residential projects in Manhattan and on Fishers Island, New York, he oversaw design and production of office spaces for a transportation design firm in New Jersey. In this project, rough concrete framing and mechanical system networks were exposed and celebrated in reference to the linear infrastructure drawings produced and displayed within the space.
Mr. Goodell joined Machado and Silvetti Associates in 2001 and was named an Associate in 2006. He served as a senior designer for the Graduate Student Housing complex, known as One Western Avenue, at Harvard University, where he was responsible for the coordination of the MEP systems throughout the 250,000 square foot building. He also served as Project Architect for the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Currently, Mr. Goodell is Project manager for the renovation and expansion of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, a one hundred year old building originally designed by McKim Mead and White.
In addition to his work experience, Mr. Goodell has also been a guest critic at several local architectural schools, including the Rhode Island School of Design and Northeastern University.
