Michael Yusem was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1988, he graduated with distinction from Cornell University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from the honors program in history. He graduated with his Master in Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1993. He has practiced architecture with Richard Meier & Partners, where he served on project teams for the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art and Canal + Television Headquarters in Paris, France. Mr. Yusem also served as project designer for Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in Pennsylvania on a range of residential and institutional projects.
Mr. Yusem joined Machado and Silvetti Associates in 1996, was named an associate in 1999, and a senior associate in 2002. He has served as senior designer for several university projects, including a 400-bed dormitory and dining hall at the University of Cincinnati, the phased development of a new 43-acre biomedical research campus at the University of California San Francisco, and a 365-bed graduate student housing complex at Harvard University. He is currently the project manager for the proposed McCallister Village housing complex at Arizona State University as well as a new school of business in Lebanon for the American University of Beirut.
In addition to his work experience, Mr. Yusem recently served a three-year term as a director of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design Alumni Council. He has also been a design studio instructor and guest critic at several local architectural schools including the Career Discovery Program at Harvard University, the Rhode Island School of Design, Northeastern University, and the Boston Architectural Center.
