Leeland McPhail, AIA
Leeland McPhail is an Associate at Machado Silvetti whose work and research confront architectural excellence with ecological systems. He brings more than a decade of experience across housing, cultural, institutional, and adaptive reuse projects. Currently leading the Provincetown Pier Hotel, his previous work includes notable projects like the Antinori Village at the Hambidge Center and the Steelcase Worklife with BLDGS, and affordable housing in New York with Bernheimer Architecture.
Leeland is a Critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he teaches studios and seminars focused on reuse, labor, and bioregional assemblies. He founded HERE HERE in 2020, with particular interests in the relationship between networks of material production, the people and processes who assemble them, and architectural typologies they produce.
He holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University, where he was a Frederick C. Bland Scholar and James Gamble Rogers Fellow, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture as a President’s Scholar from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has also trained in earthen and biogenic construction by architect and earthen builder Timur Ersen in Belgium and by Danish Master Thatcher Christian Ditlefsen BASEhabitat in Austria. Leeland has lectured widely on shifting architectural practice from petrol materials, and his design work on the vertical factory has been exhibited internationally.
