Sewoon Distrcit 4: Parcel B

Description

Designed in collaboration with Space Group, the mixed-use Parcel B building creates a threshold to the Sewoon master plan in Seoul, screening the towers within its block from the historic Jongmyu Shrine (a UNESCO World Heritage site), located across Jung-Ro Street to the north of the building.

As pedestrians approach from the Jongmyu Shrine, the building shingles back in section, subtly recalling the horizontal qualities of the shrine. Passageways cut through the building at the ground floor, linking the urban perimeter and the pedestrian interior of the block. Escalators flank the passageways, allowing pedestrians to move both horizontally and vertically, thus blurring the distinction between outdoor and indoor space at the retail level.

On the northeast corner, the glass facade visually unites the retail and office programs. Integrated LED technology allows the office tower to serve as a marquee for the retail shops and urban plaza below. Indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the building create a sense of community, making room for impromptu gatherings and social events. Landscaped atria on the fourth and fifth floors, private terraces on the seventh and tenth, and a landscaped roof garden on the top floor provide a comfortable urban refuge.
