Sun Devil Energy Center at Arizona State University

Description

The Sun Devil Energy Center houses Arizona State University’s new cogeneration power facility. This combined heat and power plant provides central cooling, heating, and on-site electricity for the South Campus loop.

Its location across the street from the new Hassayampa Academic Village and south of the Biodesign Institute required that the building’s envelope mitigate any sound or vibration from the machinery within the structure. Precast concrete panels in rotated patterns produce a highly modulated façade that’s also efficient and economical, absorbing sound while reflecting sun angles to create a dynamic play of light and shadow across the façade.
