Vienna ICV
Description
An ensemble of large, freestanding buildings (museums, palaces, and churches) and adjacent public spaces (parks, gardens, and streets) characterizes the Ringstrasse and the area in front of the former Vienna city walls. Within this context, a new parcel was to house Vienna Eislaufverein, a hotel and residences.
The design considers the needs of a modern state, the expectations of an urban transformation, and the functional, symbolic, and financial needs of the owners. The project furthers the ensemble arrangement of the area, combining object-like buildings and public zones. This approach maintains the existing urban character, allowing pedestrian traffic to remain safe and efficient, while also protecting the respective identities of the three institutions on the site.
