Wiess College Residence and Dining Hall
Description
This multi-phase project began with a master plan, led by Machado Silvetti, for two colleges, a new access road and gateway, an individual masters house, a University-wide health clinic, and the reconfiguration of the intramural fields.
The Wiess College project also includes two dining halls, a servery, and a 228-bed dormitory surrounding a public courtyard. The building employs a single-loaded corridor layout, with suites located on the building’s peripheral edge and accessible via open-air corridors shaded by ivy-covered metal screens along three courtyard walls. A new dining hall defines one edge of the courtyard and forms part of an integrated complex of new facilities, including a second dining hall and a servery crowned by a large public terrace overlooking the playing fields. The architectural language, while contemporary, also takes cues from the historic character of the campus, ensuring the new buildings blend with their setting.
