Jeffry Burchard, AIA
Jeffry is an architect and urban designer. As a Principal at Machado Silvetti, Jeffry leads teams in the design, management, and implementation of architecture and urban design projects throughout the world; and as Managing Partner he is responsible for all aspects of the practice.
Jeffry brings an optimistic enthusiasm for architecture, urban design and the experiential qualities of space and form. In addition to his experience creating new cultural, institutional, commercial and public projects, Jeffry has special expertise in reuse and transformation of existing buildings, material fabrication, building systems, advanced geometry, team organization, consensus building and the professional practice of architecture. In 2020, Jeffry received the AIA Young Architects Award for his demonstrated commitment to excellence in design, professional practice, and education.
Jeffry joined Machado and Silvetti in 2008. His first role was Senior Project Designer for the New York University Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life, which received an Honor Award in Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects upon completion. In 2015 Jeffry was named a Principal of Machado Silvetti, assuming leadership roles for both individual projects and the management of the office. Among other responsibilities, Jeffry was the Project Architect and Urban Designer for both the 21-million SF Tun Razak Financial District in Kuala Lumpur and the new model campus for the Vietnamese-German University in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam, which in 2016 won the BSA Honor Award in Design Excellence for Campus Planning. The Denver Art Museum, designed with Jorge Silvetti and Stephanie Randazzo Dwyer, and opened in 2022, has received multiple awards including The American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum, the Community Preservation Award from Historic Denver, and the Best Jumbo Glass Project by Glass Magazine Awards. His work on the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College earned an Innovative Use of Concrete in Construction award from the American Concrete Institute. In 2025, Downtown Cary Park, designed with OJB Landscape Architects, won Fast Company’s Best Urban Design Project of 2025 award and was a Finalist for the ULI Americas Awards for Excellence.
Jeffry is an Associate Professor in Practice of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he offers instruction in architectural design and practice. His work and writings have been featured in publications such as Common Edge, CLOG, IntAR, Competition, Platform, Architectural Record, and Architect. He has served on several architectural juries including the AIA San Francisco, AIA Montana and AIA East Tennessee Design Awards, and spoken widely at universities and professional conferences throughout the world. Jeffry has served as an Industry Peer Design Reviewer for the GSA and as a formal and informal consultant to architectural peers and offices with an emphasis on the practice of architecture. Jeffry is a licensed architect, member of NCARB and the AIA, and has served on the Board of Directors and as member of the Schools Committee at the Boston Society for Architecture, the second largest chapter of professional architects in the United States. At the BSA Jeffry co-created and hosted the Now-Practice-Now workshop series and created and hosted the Opening Soon online lecture series.
Jeffry studied architecture at the University of Idaho where he received a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Architecture and where he helped the university to re-establish a college dedicated to art and architecture. Jeffry then undertook a post-professional second Masters degree at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, from which he graduated with Distinction.
