Studio
Machado Silvetti is an architecture and urban design practice known for creating distinctive and meaningful work throughout the world. Our projects are intensely local, celebrating uniqueness through conceptual clarity, visual delight, and programmatic innovation. Clients engage us for our design sensibility, our attentiveness to detail, and our deep respect for the power of collaboration.
Since our founding in 1985, we have pursued the creative resolution of context, program, and material. Principals Stephanie Randazzo Dwyer and Jeffry Burchard incorporate the rich practical and theoretical legacy of the firm’s founders with their own expertise: Stephanie’s facility for transforming deep listening into built work; and Jeffry’s visionary capacity for experientially generous design. Our firm is committed to a thriving studio culture where collaboration and receptivity are essential, with ongoing collective practices like open studios, shared discussions, charrettes, lively design pin-ups, and engaged social activity.
After four decades of practice, our portfolio reflects broad experience across scope, scale, and location, displaying special knowledge in art and teaching museums, educational environments for PK-12 and universities, multi-family residential, civic buildings, public spaces, cultural heritage , adaptive re-use projects, and urban design and planning. Our award- winning projects can be found in and near Boston and across New England’s campuses and coastal towns, throughout the US in cities like New York, L.A., Denver and Cary, and around the world in Beirut, Buenos Aires, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Our current projects include a public elementary school, a historic whaling museum, a recreation center, multi-family housing, an engineering college renovation, and a coastal hotel.
History
The office was founded by Rodolfo Machado and Jorge Silvetti, recipients of the first ever Award in Architecture by the American Academy of Arts and Letters for “boldly conceived and brilliantly executed projects” and for being “uncompromisingly dedicated to envisioning a meaningful architecture of the public realm.” Today, Stephanie Randazzo Dwyer and Jeffry Burchard lead the office, continuing this tradition of design excellence across all projects, and expanding into new areas of practice.
People
We are a group of designers and architects who want to see things built and who support each other, our clients, and the communities we work with in this pursuit. The collective knowledge and experience of our entire team is the strength of Machado Silvetti, enabling us to respond to the unique needs and desires of new clients and varied projects.
We have been working out of our office in the South End Neighborhood of Boston since our founding. Our open-studios culture is central to the way we work: collaboratively and openly with shared discussions, charettes, design pin-ups, and activity happening in all corners of the space.
